2008 GIS Cooperative Project

The Trans Canada Trail consists of 21,500 kilometres of trail designated for recreational use, spanning from coast to coast, with sections in every province and territory in the country. Approximately 44 kilometres of the trail, resides in the city of Kawartha Lakes, Ontario.

In January of 2008, an agreement between the Kawartha Lakes Friends of the Trans Canada Trail, and Fleming College GIS Specialist students marked the beginning of the Kawartha Lakes Trans Canada Trail GIS Co-operative Project. Planning agreements established by the client organization and Fleming College students Ryan Bremner, Holly Sanford, and Derek Virgo outlined 4 major deliverables regarding the focus of the project. The team of students would apply skills in several areas of geographic information systems, including: field work, database construction and management, web design and web-GIS, and map production.

In addition to accessing final project deliverables on this site, you can find a great deal of information about the project, team members, and the Kawartha Lakes Trans Canada Trail. Please feel free contact us with any feedback you may have about the project!

Enjoy!
