Data Collection

Team members worked in the field for a total of 7 days, completing two separate passes of the Kawartha Lakes Trans Canada Trail. During the initial first pass, each team member was equipped with a Garmin eTrex Venture CX hand-held mapping unit. The units provided accuracy within 2 metres for recording point data. The purpose of the initial pass of the trail was to collect and categorize co-ordinate information for all feature datasets requested by the client.

During the second pass, the team used a base map compiled from data collected during the initial pass. The base map, printed on several sheets, was used to manually record non-spatial attribute data for each feature. Types of information recorded for each feature were determined beforehand. All non-spatial attribute data could then be transcribed into a database alongside spatial information for each feature dataset.
